A Supreme Court lawyer, Md. Taifur Rahman (40), has been accused of killing his wife and attempting to burn her body in Jamalpur town. Locals detained him and handed him over to police after the incident.
The incident took place around 2:00 am on Thursday night (March 5) in the Mondolpara neighborhood of Doripara area in the town.
The deceased, Tahmina Akter Tania (36), was the daughter of Abu Taher from Mukundabari area of the town. The accused Taifur Rahman is the son of late Nazrul Islam from Mondolpara of Doripara. The couple had a son and a daughter.
According to police and local sources, neighbors noticed smoke coming from Taifur Rahman’s house late at night and became suspicious. They broke the glass window and entered the house, where they found Tania’s burnt body lying on a bed.
Fire service personnel arrived after being informed, brought the fire under control, and recovered the body.
Angry locals detained Taifur Rahman and beat him before handing him over to police.
The victim’s maternal uncle Monowar Hossain Colonel said Tania had returned to her husband’s house around 8:30 pm on Thursday from her father’s home. Later that night the family received news that she had been burned to death. He demanded a proper investigation and justice for the killing.
Additional Superintendent of Police of Jamalpur Sadar Circle Yahya Al Mamun said preliminary findings suggest that the murder occurred due to a family dispute. The incident is being investigated seriously and necessary legal measures are being taken.
