General students of Jamalpur Textile Engineering College have initiated a ‘shutdown’ movement demanding resolution to long-standing problems such as teacher shortage, session delays, mismanagement, and lack of proper lab facilities. Starting Saturday, students have boycotted classes, exams, and all academic activities as part of the protest.

In a joint statement, the students said, “We are not affiliated with any political organization. This movement is solely for the protection of our rightful access to education. It’s taking us six years to complete a four-year course. We have no permanent teachers, inadequate lab facilities, and our results are never published on time.”

Md. Sakib, a representative of the 2021–22 session, stated, “This isn’t just a problem in Jamalpur — it’s the same in textile colleges across the country. We want this mismanagement to end.”

Zayed Azmi from the 2022–23 session added, “If this continues, our future will be in jeopardy. That’s why we’ve been forced to take to the streets.”

On July 21, the students organized mass communication activities, a human chain, and a press conference on campus. They have announced that the movement will continue until their demands are met.

Meanwhile, the college administration has expressed a sympathetic attitude toward the students' concerns.

College Principal Engineer Bishwajit Das said, “Many of the issues raised by the students are valid. We’ve already reviewed them, and a crucial meeting is scheduled for July 22 where these matters will be discussed.”
