Three-Member Committee Formed by Education Ministry to Investigate KUET Crisis, Guardians Stage Human Chain

The Ministry of Education has formed a three-member committee to investigate the ongoing deadlock at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET), following an attack on students earlier this year. The formation of the committee was announced in a circular signed by A.S.M. Kasem, Senior Assistant Secretary of the Scholarship and Engineering Branch of the Secondary and Higher Education Division, on July 20.

The committee is chaired by Dr. Mohammad Abdul Majid, former Chairman of the National Board of Revenue. The other members are Dr. A.K.M. Golam Rabbani Mondal, Professor of Marketing at Rajshahi University, and Dr. Masroor Ali, Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at BUET.

The committee has been tasked with investigating the following:

• Identifying individuals or groups responsible for the February attack on students
  
  

• Determining the reasons behind the disruption of academic activities
  
  

• Assessing the roles of relevant individuals
  
  

• Verifying whether any financial or administrative activities took place in the absence of the Vice-Chancellor
  
  

• Providing recommendations to restore the university’s reputation and academic normalcy
  
  

Meanwhile, on July 20, guardians staged a human chain in front of the KUET administrative building, expressing frustration over the five-month-long suspension of academic activities. They demanded the immediate resumption of classes and exams.

Students also staged sit-ins inside classrooms on both July 20 and 21, echoing the same demand. However, no teachers have yet returned to conduct classes, leaving academic activities still officially halted.

In light of the prolonged conflict between faculty and administration, there are increasing calls from teachers, students, and guardians to resolve the dispute and normalize the education system as soon as possible.
