Professor Yasmin said, “Sakib is no longer with us. A relative has confirmed this to us. At this moment, words fail me.”
The incident occurred late Saturday night (6 December) when repeated clashes broke out between the two student groups. Three students were seriously injured and admitted to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital. The injured are:
Sakibul Hasan Rana (Science Department, Session 2024–25)
Hridoy Ahmed (Humanities Department, Session 2024–25)
Jannat (Ideal College, Humanities Department, Session 2025–26)
Dormitory students alleged that Jannat stayed in the hostel with the support of a powerful student group. Momen Palowan, an active member of the young-Selim group involved in the clash, was previously associated with banned Chhatra League politics. He is currently accused of using the influence of the young group to dominate the campus and dormitory, engage in drug use, and involve outsiders in misconduct.
Students also said, “When we protest against unethical activities, threats are made. False rumors spread on social media prevent ordinary students from speaking up. Student groups also influence admission and form-filling processes.”
Following the clash, police raided the dormitory at night to bring the situation under control and stayed until dawn. Fear still persists across the campus.
