The British parody rock band Spinal Tap, famous for their long-standing drummer shortage and bizarre mishaps, is back with a new movie. In their latest film, Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, the band members are seen searching for a new drummer for a final gig in New Orleans.
Frontman David St. Hubbins said, “We searched everywhere for a drummer, but everyone knows our past. Then this new member, Didi Crockett, voluntarily joined and showed courage.”
The original movie was released in 1984 and humorously depicted all kinds of absurdities and failures in the world of rock 'n' roll. In the new film, the three band members are shown busy with various activities: one runs a cheese farm on campus, another owns a wax museum in London, and another is creating jingles in Los Angeles.
The new movie features guest appearances by Sir Elton John and Paul McCartney, who join the band on stage for live performances. Audiences will also see their famous Stonehenge segment along with new songs such as Rockin’ in the Urn and The Devil’s Not Just Getting Old.
Band guitarist Nigel Tufnel said, “In this new era, there are no limits to our sound; our amplifier goes up to ‘Infinity.’”
Initially, the movie received mixed reviews. The Guardian rated it four stars, calling it “still funny and satirical,” while The Telegraph advised audiences to temper their expectations.
Although Spinal Tap is a fictional band, they have performed in real life at venues such as Wembley Arena, Glastonbury Festival, and Carnegie Hall. The new film continues the same satirical style, highlighting the band’s chaotic history, the bizarre deaths of drummers, and the exaggerated lives of rock stars.
