In a tragic road accident in Begumganj, Noakhali, seven members of the same family lost their lives. The accident occurred early Wednesday morning in the Alaiyapur Union of the upazila. All the deceased were residents of Paschim Choupali area under Chandraganj police station in Lakshmipur district.
According to reports, the victims had gone to Dhaka to receive a family member who had recently returned from Oman. They were returning to Lakshmipur in two vehicles—a private car and a Hiace microbus. On the way back, the Hiace lost control and plunged into a roadside canal, killing seven people on the spot.

The presence of both children and an elderly woman among the victims has cast a deep shadow of grief over their family and community.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chandraganj Highway Police Station, Md. Mobarak Hossain Bhuiyan, said, “The driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and fall into the canal. Some passengers managed to escape, but seven were trapped inside and died.”
Locals said the accident occurred early in the morning, and initially, no one noticed. Later, lights from the vehicle drew attention, prompting residents to rush to the scene and assist in rescue efforts. With the help of a tow truck, the microbus was retrieved from the canal.
Dr. Md. Monir Hossain of Begumganj Upazila Health Complex confirmed, “So far, we have received two bodies. The rest were later recovered and sent to the hospital. It appears they all died at the scene.”
Begumganj Model Police Station OC Md. Liton Dewan confirmed that the returning expatriate from Oman survived the crash and is in stable condition. Highway police are working to confirm the identities of the deceased.
The victims’ families and local residents are devastated. The death of seven family members in a single incident has plunged the entire community into mourning. The local administration has promised necessary support and assistance to the affected families.
