In Navaran area of Sharsha Upazila, Jessore, a rural doctor named Al-Amin (35) was stabbed to death by assailants while returning home after performing Tarabi prayers. The tragic incident occurred at around 9:30 PM on Thursday (19 February) in Baripota village of the upazila.
The deceased, Al-Amin, was the son of local resident Rafiqul Islam and had been serving as a rural doctor in the area for many years, providing medical services to the local community.
According to police and locals, after the evening prayers, Al-Amin set out for home when a group of assailants, lying in wait, attacked him. They stabbed him repeatedly with sharp weapons and fled the scene. Severely injured, he was rescued by locals and taken to Sharsha Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.
Police quickly visited the scene and collected evidence. Sharsha OC Maruf Hasan mentioned that although he was on leave, he was informed about the incident, and the officer-in-charge of the police station is leading the investigation. Investigating officer Shah Alam confirmed that efforts have begun to identify the perpetrators and uncover the motive. The body was sent for postmortem at Jessore 250-Bed General Hospital on Friday morning.
The incident has cast a shadow of grief over the community, creating fear among locals. Police have assured that the culprits will be apprehended swiftly.
