Rokib Hasan, a shining star in Bangladesh’s juvenile detective literature, has passed away. On Wednesday (October 15), the renowned author breathed his last at Dhaka’s Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital while undergoing treatment. He was 75 years old at the time of his death.

According to hospital authorities, Rokib Hasan had long been suffering from kidney complications and was undergoing regular dialysis. On Wednesday, just before his dialysis session began, his heart stopped beating, leading to his demise.

Rokib Hasan was born on December 12, 1950, in Cumilla. However, due to his father’s transferable job, he spent most of his childhood in Feni, where his education began. Later, he attended Cumilla Victoria College. Though he initially pursued several government and private jobs, he never found comfort in the structured 9-to-5 routine. Eventually, he chose writing as his life’s sole profession.

Rokib Hasan began his literary career with Seba Prokashoni. At first, he focused on translations, but soon captivated young readers with his own original characters and stories. It was under his pen that Bangladesh’s most beloved juvenile detective series, Tin Goyenda (Three Detectives), was born — featuring the iconic trio Kishore, Musa, and Robin, who captured the imagination of generations.

Beyond Tin Goyenda, he also authored other popular series such as Tin Bondhu, Goyenda Kishore Musa Robin, and Reza-Suja. The Tin Goyenda series alone comprises 160 books, and he translated more than 30 world classics. His translated works include those of Jules Verne, Farley Mowat, Gerald Durrell, Erich von Däniken, and even Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

In addition to thrilling stories for children, he also wrote mystery and thriller novels for adults. He even ventured into science fiction. Alongside his writing career, he once served as Assistant Editor at Rahasya Patrika (Mystery Magazine).

Rokib Hasan was known for being an intensely private and publicity-shy individual. Yet his creations live on vividly in the imaginations of countless young readers. The author, who became an inseparable part of the childhood and adolescence of several generations, leaves behind an irreplaceable void in Bangladesh’s literary landscape.

Rokib Hasan laid the foundation upon which Bangladeshi juvenile literature reached new heights. His creations and his legacy will forever remain alive in the hearts of millions of readers.
