Two young advisers of the interim government have decided to resign from their positions to participate in the upcoming national parliamentary elections. They are Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, Adviser to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives, and Mahfuz Alam, Adviser to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
Rumors of their resignation started circulating yesterday, Friday. Investigations reveal that they are stepping down due to political reasons. It has been confirmed that they will submit their resignation letters before the elections.
Speaking on a talk show hosted by the US-based Tathya TV, Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan said he has been involved in politics since 2018. He believes that anyone who is active in politics and intends to contest elections should not hold a government position. He added that he would step down even before the election schedule is announced.
Regarding whether he would join the NCP, he did not comment directly. However, about contesting elections, he mentioned, “Some people think I will run from Muradnagar, but that is not true. I want to be involved in politics at the national level, so Dhaka city is more suitable for me.”
He also criticized the political dynamics between the Awami League and the National Party, alleging, “Some quarters are trying to rehabilitate the Awami League by making the National Party the main opposition. They are selecting Awami League leaders with good public image to execute this rehabilitation plan.”
When contacted for a reaction by “Amar Desh,” his phone was found to be switched off.
Meanwhile, Mahfuz Alam, Adviser to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, was also unreachable by phone. Close sources revealed that he is also considering resigning to contest the upcoming election.
