Rape of a First Grader in Nazirpur: No Case Filed Even After 4 Days Due to Intervention by Local Influentials

An accusation of rape has been brought against a 70-year-old man in Nazirpur, Pirojpur, involving a first-grade student. It is reported that despite the allegation, the victim child's family has been unable to file a case even four days after the incident due due to the intervention of local influential figures.

The incident occurred on Monday (October 13) in Bhaijora village of Shakharikathi Union in the upazila. The accused is Md. Dinu Fakir (70), son of late Firoj Fakir of the same village.

The victim child's father stated that on the day of the incident, his daughter was playing with other children in a field near the riverbank close to the accused Dinu Fakir's house in the afternoon. At this time, the accused Dinu Fakir allegedly lured her with the promise of money, took her away, and raped her. Upon receiving the news, he went to the spot, rescued his daughter, and brought her home.

However, allegations have surfaced that a local influential circle has become active to suppress this incident. The victim's father mentioned that local Jamaat leader Farhad and a few others offered to "settle" the matter.

Regarding this, local Jamaat leader Farhad said, "The victim and the accused came to me. However, they will settle the matter themselves. They promised to give the girl's father some money, which they will give. Taka 10,000 has already been deposited with local Wahab Fakir. They will give the remaining money. There is no need to write about this."

Meanwhile, the accused Dinu Fakir's son, Raju Fakir, also claimed that the matter has been "settled" and commented that a journalist is not needed. However, the accused Dinu Fakir himself claimed that he is a retired police member and that he did not commit such an act.

Regarding the non-filing of the case, Nazirpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahmud Al Farid Bhuiyan said, "He has not received any complaint from the victim's side regarding this matter. Legal action will be taken if a complaint is received."

Allegations have been raised that a child victim of a serious crime like rape is being deprived of legal remedy due to the intervention of local influential individuals, which has caused deep concern in society.
