A five-year-old child has reportedly been kidnapped and murdered in Patiya, Chattogram. Two days after going missing, his body was recovered from a nearby garbage dump inside a sack.
The victim, Md. Zayan (5), was the son of Shahjahan, a garage owner from South Gobindarkhil area of Patiya Municipality.
Family members said the child went missing on Tuesday afternoon while playing in front of his house. Despite extensive searches by family members and locals, he could not be found. Initially, it was believed that he might have fallen into a nearby water body, and nearby ponds were searched. Later, a general diary (GD) was filed with the police.
Later, a handwritten ransom note was found in the father’s room demanding 300,000 taka. The note instructed the family to leave a mobile phone unlocked at a specified location and warned them not to inform the police.
Police collected the letter as key evidence and began an investigation using digital technology.
On Wednesday night, the child’s body was recovered from a garbage pile near his home, inside a sack. The recovery triggered shock and grief in the area.
The victim’s family alleged that the child was kidnapped for ransom and later murdered after the situation became exposed. They demanded immediate arrest and maximum punishment for the perpetrators.
Police confirmed that a murder case has been filed and investigations are ongoing.
