Hotel Worker Killed in Rangpur Over Dispute Regarding Garbage Cleaning

A hotel worker has died following a violent incident triggered by a dispute over cleaning garbage at a hotel in Rangpur Metropolitan City. The son of the hotel owner accused in the incident has been detained by the Metropolitan Detective Police (DB).

The incident occurred on Tuesday (June 16) night in the Khamarpara Mor area near College Road in the city. The deceased was identified as Mohammad Shaon (25), who worked at the hotel. He was from Aditamari upazila in Lalmonirhat district.

Local sources said an argument broke out between Shaon and members of the hotel management, including Monu Mia, over cleanliness-related issues at night. The situation escalated, and Shaon attempted to leave the location.

Eyewitnesses claimed that at one point, he was attacked with a sharp weapon. Locals rushed him to Rangpur Medical College Hospital, where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.

After the incident, accused Monu Mia attempted to flee the area, but patrol officers of the DB police, with the help of locals, arrested him. He was later taken to the DB office for interrogation.

Officials of the Rangpur Metropolitan Police Detective Branch said the detained person has been primarily questioned and necessary information is being collected. Legal procedures are ongoing.

Meanwhile, Kotwali police said further legal action will be taken once a case is filed by the victim’s family. The incident has created widespread tension in the area.

Police added that the exact cause of the incident and all related facts will be confirmed through investigation.
