 PNN News Desk | Rajshahi:

At Rajshahi University (RABU), classes and exams have been suspended due to an indefinite strike by teachers, staff, and employees over the ward quota issue. The complete shutdown, which began on Monday, continues into the second day, leaving the campus virtually empty for students.

On September 18, a sudden notification announced the partial restoration of the ward quota under certain institutional conditions, which sparked student protests. Several students went on a hunger strike, leading to health issues and hospitalization of four individuals. On September 20, clashes occurred between teachers and students from morning until midnight amidst rising tensions.

Teachers have criticized the ward quota as unreasonable, claiming it negatively impacts the quality of education. Reactions among faculty members are mixed—some demand complete cancellation, while others support limited reform. However, students insist on the legitimacy of restoring the quota.

The university administration and syndicate have maintained the suspension of the ward quota. Due to the ongoing strikes by teachers and staff and protests by students, normal academic activities on campus have been severely disrupted.
