Protest in Chattogram: Gana Adhikar Parishad Blocks Roads Again Over Attack on Nurul Haque

Leaders and activists of the Gana Adhikar Parishad have once again blocked the roads at Gate No. 2 in Chattogram city to protest the attack on their president, Nurul Haque. The blockade, which began around 12:00 pm on Saturday, brought traffic in the area to a complete halt, causing severe inconvenience to commuters.

Md. Jasim Uddin, a member of the Gana Adhikar Parishad’s higher council, alleged that law enforcement officials openly attacked the organization’s president. He demanded that the attackers be brought to justice, issue an apology, and called for the resignation of Home Affairs Advisor Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.

Eyewitnesses said that protesters arrived with a rally, set tires on fire, and blocked the road while chanting slogans demanding the resignation of the Home Affairs Advisor. Members of the Jubo Adhikar Parishad and Chhatra Adhikar Parishad also joined the protest.

The organization had conducted a first round of road blockade at the same location the previous night, following clashes between leaders and activists of the National Party (Jatiya Party) and Gana Adhikar Parishad in Kakarail, Dhaka, on Friday evening. Several, including Nurul Haque, were injured in baton charges by law enforcement and admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Noyon Ahmed, Sub-Inspector of Chattogram Metropolitan Police’s Panchlaish Police Station, said that police were present at the site during the blockade. However, no major violence or serious disruption was reported. The protest caused complete paralysis of traffic around Gate No. 2.
