Following post-election disturbances, Sheikh Farid Ahmed Manik, newly elected MP from Chandpur-3, handed over several of his party’s activists to the police. This action was taken on Friday night after tense situations arose in Ward 13 of Chandpur Municipality.

According to local sources, after the election results were announced, tensions escalated between two groups carrying homemade weapons. To prevent further deterioration, five identified individuals were handed over to Chandpur Model Police Station under the leadership of Foiz Dhali, General Secretary of the Municipal Chhatra Dal.

Those detained include Nahidul Islam Joni (22), son of Nasir Gazi from Warless Bazar; Mobarak Hossain Bepari (26), son of Latfur Rahman; and Joni Gazi (30), son of Ibrahim Gazi. Two more young men, Monir and Fahim, from the same area, were also taken to the police station.

Police sources said the detainees are being interrogated, and legal action will be taken against them. Foiz Ahmed, Officer-in-Charge of Chandpur Model Police Station, confirmed that necessary legal measures will be taken against those involved, and operations to identify others connected to the incident are ongoing.

Local residents noted that although there was post-election tension, the situation was quickly brought under control by law enforcement intervention.
