A Bangladeshi youth named Md. Almas Sardar Farid (24) has reportedly died in a road accident in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. He was a resident of South Balithuba village in Faridganj upazila of Chandpur.
The matter was confirmed on Wednesday (15 April) night by Harun or Rashid, Chairman of Balithuba East Union Parishad.
According to family and local sources, Farid went to Saudi Arabia nearly two years and nine months ago in search of livelihood. There, he worked as a laborer in a coffee house. However, since March 24, all communication with his family stopped, causing concern among relatives.
After extensive searching, on Wednesday afternoon, Farid’s father received a phone call from Saudi Arabia. He was informed that Farid had died in a road accident in Riyadh on March 24.
The deceased Farid was the youngest son of journalist Abu Taleb Sardar. He was the youngest among four siblings.
Farid’s father said that he sent his son abroad hoping for financial improvement of the family. He had hoped that Farid would one day take responsibility for the family. But such sudden tragic news has shattered all their dreams.
The incident has cast a shadow of grief over the entire area. Family members have demanded the repatriation of his body to Bangladesh.
