Home Affairs Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said that the police are not a force to protect the interests of any political party, individual, or particular group.

He said the primary responsibility of the police is to enforce the law impartially as friends and servants of the people.

The minister made the remarks as the chief guest at the first phase closing ceremony of the 27th BCS Police Batch held at Bangladesh Police Academy, Sarda, Rajshahi, on Sunday morning (August 2).

Salahuddin Ahmed said police members must perform their duties with professionalism, honesty, and accountability to maintain law and order, ensure public safety, and protect human rights.

He said that to gain public trust, police must work above all political influence, bias, and group interests.

The minister said the greatest strength of a police force in a democratic state is public confidence. Therefore, police officers must remain fully committed to the Constitution and the law while working impartially.

Highlighting changes in crime patterns, he said crimes are rapidly changing with technological advancement. Police members need modern technological skills and training to combat cybercrime, online fraud, and other technology-based crimes.

He emphasized that building a humane and trust-based relationship with citizens is essential to establishing police as a truly people-oriented force.

Addressing newly trained police officers, Salahuddin Ahmed urged them to carry patriotism, honesty, professionalism, and humanitarian values throughout their careers.

The minister handed over awards to three trainee assistant police superintendents who achieved excellence in different fields.

Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ali Hossain Fakir, Rajshahi-6 constituency MP Abu Said Chand, Bangladesh Police Academy Principal and Additional IGP GM Azizur Rahman, senior police officials, trainers, and newly appointed officers were present at the event.
