Pistol, Grenades, and Mortar Shells Recovered in BGB Operation in Teknaf: Fresh Tensions Along the Border

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has recovered a pistol, four grenades, three mortar shells, and 10 rounds of rifle ammunition from the Myanmar-bordering area of Teknaf upazila in Cox's Bazar. The arms, ammunition, and explosives were found inside a bag abandoned in a forested area of Bilashi’s Island in the Hoikkang region on Sunday night.

According to BGB, the operation was carried out based on intelligence inputs. The operation was led by Nayek Md. Nur Hossain of BGB’s Hoikkang border outpost. The forested area where the weapons were recovered is located about two kilometers south of the Hoikkang BOP. Intelligence activities are ongoing to identify those involved in smuggling or storing these weapons and explosives.

Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Jasim Uddin, commanding officer of the 64 BGB Battalion in Ukhiya, confirmed the operation. He stated that the recovered arms and ammunition have been submitted to the Teknaf Model Police Station as evidence. Necessary steps are being taken to destroy the mortar shells and hand grenades. He also mentioned that a case is currently under process in connection with the incident.

This significant arms recovery has sparked fresh concerns in the border area and raised alarm over the law and order situation.
