Opposition leader and Amir of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Shafiqul Rahman, stated that if citizens’ rights are violated, they will protest and, if necessary, organize resistance.
Speaking at a press briefing at the Parliament Media Center after the session on Tuesday night, he said that the opposition does not seek conflict or instability but aims to play a constructive role for the country. He emphasized that while they support government initiatives for public welfare, they will not remain silent if citizens’ rights are threatened.
Rahman urged the government to respect the public’s referendum verdict, noting that such respect would enhance the Parliament’s prestige. Regarding the proposed special committee, he stressed the need for equal representation from ruling and opposition parties to ensure fair outcomes.
He also accused the Minister of Law of misrepresenting one of his statements in Parliament but noted he would address it in a future session. Rahman remarked that popular uprisings often go beyond constitutional constraints, reflecting the public’s aspirations, and cited historical political changes that occurred outside conventional frameworks.
