Online Income Tax Return Filing Made Mandatory for All Normal Individuals in the Country: New Directive from NBR

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) on Sunday made it mandatory for all normal individuals in the country to file their income tax returns online. The order was issued by NBR Chairman Abdur Rahman Khan.

This directive was issued under the authority of Section 328(4) of the Income Tax Act 2023. The order will take effect from tomorrow, Monday.

However, four categories of individuals have been exempted from this mandatory requirement. They are:

• Senior citizens aged 65 years or above,
  
  

• Persons with special needs,
  
  

• Bangladeshi citizens residing abroad, and
  
  

• Representatives filing on behalf of deceased persons.
  
  

NBR expects that through the online filing system, taxpayers will benefit from increased convenience, and the tax administration will become more transparent and modernized.
