Bangladesh’s national parliament has approved a budget of 9.38 trillion taka for the 2026–27 fiscal year.
The budget came into effect on Wednesday (July 1) after being passed by voice vote.
This is the 55th national budget and the first full budget of the BNP-led government after the national election.
Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury presented the budget on June 11.
Following three weeks of debate, several amendments were made before final approval.
The government aims to strengthen economic recovery and long-term growth.
A roadmap has been included to turn Bangladesh into a one-trillion-dollar economy within a few years.
Opposition MPs raised concerns about inflation and taxation, but the budget was passed.
Key changes include raising tax-free income to 400,000 taka and removing mandatory TIN for bank accounts.
The budget deficit stands at 2.43 trillion taka, or 3.6% of GDP.
Growth is targeted at 6.5%, while inflation is expected to be reduced to 7.5%.
