PNN News Desk, Brahmanbaria:

A gunfight broke out again between two groups over dominance in the Kandipara area of Brahmanbaria district town. On Thursday night, Saddam Hossain (32) was killed in the clash. He was the son of Mastu Mia from the area.

Family members claim that a long-standing rivalry exists between the Lion Shakil group and the volunteer group led by Delwar Hossain Dilip. In the first clash on Wednesday evening, three members of the Dilip group were shot by Shakil’s group. Tensions escalated throughout the area following that incident.

The family alleges that late at night, Dilip and his associates took Saddam from his home, and a short while later, locals found his bullet-ridden body on the street. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared him dead. They claim the killing was a planned act to target him on behalf of the rival group.

Saddam’s relatives said that although he supported Dilip, he became a “victim of internal conflict.”

However, Delwar Hossain Dilip denied the allegations, stating, “I did not call Saddam. He was with me. When the night’s events began, the Lion Shakil group fired at us, and Saddam was hit during that.”

OC of Brahmanbaria Sadar Model Police Station, Md. Azharul Islam, said that the killing appears linked to the old rivalry between the groups. Investigations have begun, and extra police have been deployed in the area. Earlier in the evening, three people were injured in an exchange of gunfire in Madrasa Road, heightening tensions. Police said the situation is now under control, though locals remain fearful and some have taken shelter with relatives.
