The final day for nomination distribution for the Rajshahi University Central Student Union (RUCSU) elections has been scheduled for Sunday. Over five days, a total of 595 candidates have collected nomination forms. Among them, 199 candidates are contesting for 23 central council positions, 26 candidates for five senate positions, and 370 candidates for various hall council posts.
The Election Commission has made drug testing mandatory for all candidates. Testing has already begun, and any candidate testing positive will have their candidacy canceled. Election preparations have reached the final stage, and various student organizations are completing their panel formations.
While independent candidates lead in nomination collections, student wings of political parties and leftist organizations are also actively participating. Independent candidate Sajibur Rahman has filed his nomination to represent the general student body, and Nisha Akter, running for the Women’s Affairs Secretary post, has pledged to ensure a safe campus for female students.
The elections have reignited political tensions on campus. However, repeated changes to the schedule and voting centers have created uncertainty among students. The Election Commission has assured that a fair election will be ensured after the final round of nominations.
