From Wednesday, January 21, 2026, Bangladeshi citizens applying for a U.S. B1/B2 visa for business or tourism purposes must deposit a visa bond of up to $15,000 USD. However, this bond will not apply to F or M visas for students studying in the United States, according to the U.S. Embassy in Dhaka.
The embassy stated that the visa bond is applicable only for business and tourist visas (B1/B2). Students will not be subject to this bond requirement. Those who already hold a valid B1/B2 visa before January 21, 2026, will not be affected by this new requirement.
The U.S. Embassy warned applicants not to make any advance payment for the bond before the visa interview, as doing so does not guarantee visa approval. It also cautioned against paying via third-party websites due to potential fraud. If the bond is submitted properly after the interview, the amount is refundable.
This new bond policy is being implemented as part of the visa process for Bangladeshi citizens traveling to the U.S. for business or tourism. Applicants are advised to prepare in advance and follow embassy instructions carefully.
