‘Zootropolis 2’ has set a new record in Hollywood animated films. The film has earned $1.7 billion (130 million pounds) worldwide, surpassing the record of $1.69 billion set by ‘Inside Out 2’ released in 2024.

Some know the film as ‘Zootopia 2’. This sequel follows the 2016 hit ‘Zootropolis’. The story follows rabbit police officer Judy Hopps and cunning fox Nick Wilde as they attempt to track down the mysterious reptile Gary D’Snake.

Alan Bergman, Co-Chairman of Disney Entertainment, said, “This remarkable achievement was possible due to the enthusiasm of fans worldwide. We are proud of our creators. Zootropolis 2 is a major milestone in animated films.”

In the U.S., the film had the biggest opening weekend for an animated movie released during Thanksgiving. It also became the fastest animated film to reach the $1 billion mark.

Although Zootropolis 2 has broken records in Hollywood, the highest-grossing animated film globally remains China’s ‘Ne Zha 2’, which earned $2.2 billion (165 million pounds), largely from the Chinese box office.

In the list of highest-grossing films worldwide, Zootropolis 2 ranks ninth. The first position is held by ‘Avatar’ ($2.92 billion), followed by ‘Avengers: Endgame’ ($2.79 billion), ‘Titanic’ ($2.26 billion), and ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ ($2.25 billion), along with other blockbusters.

The film’s budget was approximately $150 million (112 million pounds), which achieved huge success relative to its earnings. ‘Zootropolis 2’ has set a new record for animated film lovers in Hollywood and secured a strong position in the global box office rankings.
