The horror film Salmokji: Whispering Water is receiving massive audience response in South Korean cinemas and continues to dominate the box office.
According to the Korean Film Council, the film attracted around 350,000 viewers over three days from Friday to Sunday. Its total audience has now reached nearly 2 million, marking a significant success.
Released on April 8, the film revolves around a shooting crew led by Su-in, played by Kim Hye-yoon, who travels to a remote reservoir area for filming. Over time, they encounter strange and supernatural events.
The film was shot in a reservoir area in Yesan, South Chungcheong Province, known locally for mysterious and eerie stories.
At the same time, the Hollywood sci-fi film Project Hail Mary ranks second at the Korean box office, attracting over 100,000 viewers in the same period.
Critics say the film’s success is due to its strong connection with local folklore and horror atmosphere, making it highly engaging for audiences.
