The Meteorological Department on Tuesday morning (August 12) announced that various regions of the country may experience thunderstorm rain within the next 24 hours. Especially, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in many areas of Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions.
The forecast also mentioned that along with Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet, some parts of Rajshahi and Chattogram divisions, as well as isolated areas in Dhaka, Khulna, and Barishal, may experience temporary gusty winds with light to moderate rain or thunderstorm rain.
The Meteorological Department further stated that by 9 am Wednesday, the day and night temperatures across the country will remain nearly unchanged.
According to the synoptic situation, the axis of the monsoon wind extends from Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, northern Bangladesh, up to Assam. Currently, the monsoon wind is less active over Bangladesh but moderately active over the northern Bay of Bengal. There is a possibility of a low-pressure area forming in the northwest Bay of Bengal and its vicinity within the next 48 hours.
In the past 24 hours, the highest temperature recorded in the country was 36.5°C in Khulna and the lowest temperature was 24.6°C in Bandarban. During the same period, the highest rainfall was recorded in Tetulia, Panchagarh, measuring 37 millimeters.
