Five central leaders of the National Citizens Party (NCP) are staying at a hotel in Cox’s Bazar. At the same hotel is former U.S. Ambassador Peter Haas—sparking widespread rumors in political circles that NCP leaders met with him. However, NCP Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary has dismissed these rumors as “completely false.”

NCP leaders arrived in Cox’s Bazar on Tuesday morning (August 5). Soon after, claims surfaced on various social media platforms and news portals alleging that they held a “secret meeting” with former U.S. Ambassador Peter Haas.

Responding to the rumors in an interview with News24, Nasiruddin Patwary said,
“This is entirely a rumor. We came here for a tour. Right after checking into the hotel, we saw such news which is untrue.”

He added,
“Such baseless rumors are being deliberately spread. The time we are spending now is not part of any party activity—this is purely personal time.”

According to NCP sources, the leaders staying in Cox’s Bazar include the party’s Organizational Secretary, International Affairs Secretary, Propaganda Secretary, and two other central leaders. However, no party meetings or programs had been scheduled in Cox’s Bazar.

Meanwhile, no official statement has been issued regarding former U.S. Ambassador Peter Haas’s visit to Cox’s Bazar.

Analysts suggest that in this sensitive period marked by the ‘July Declaration’ and recent political changes, spreading rumors could be an attempt to create political confusion.
