NCP leader found dead at a hostel in Hazaribagh

Police recovered the hanging body of a young woman named Jannatara Rumi (30) from a girls' hostel in the Jigatala Kachabazar area of Hazaribagh, Dhaka. She was serving as the Joint Coordinator of the Dhaka Metropolitan South Coordination Committee of the National Citizens Party (NCP).

Local residents informed the police on Thursday morning (18 December), and the body was retrieved from the scene. After completing the necessary legal procedures, it was sent to the morgue of Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

Police sources said Jannatara Rumi was a resident of Nazirpur, Patnitola, Naogaon District. Her father is Md. Zakir Hossain and her mother is Nurjahan Begum. While living in the capital, she was active in NCP’s organizational activities alongside her studies.

Hazaribagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saiful Islam said that initially, it is suspected to be a suicide, but investigation is ongoing to determine if there are any signs of murder. Hostel residents and others involved are being questioned to uncover the cause of the incident.

The incident has created shock and concern in the area. Police have said details will be shared after the investigation.
