The notice states that each student’s grade will be determined based on earned points and course credits. To calculate GPA, total earned points are divided by total credits. For example, if a student earns 39 points across four courses with a total of 16 credits, but only 12 credits are considered passed, dividing 39 by 16 results in a GPA of 2.44.
The new notice defines the full process for determining CGPA, including EPS (Earned Points Secured), GPS (Grade Point Average), TPS (Total Points Secured), and CGPA.
Participation in all courses’ exams is mandatory for promotion to the next year. For promotion from first to second year and second to third year, a student must earn at least a D grade in half of the courses. Absence in one course is allowed if the remaining courses meet the D-grade requirement, but the absent course must be taken in the following year. Promotion from third to fourth year follows the same rules.
In the fourth year, students may retake only F-grade courses or one absent course in the grade improvement exam. Additionally, they may attempt grade improvement exams for a maximum of two courses with C, C+, or D grades. Students can take these exams whether promoted or not. Courses with F grades can be retaken multiple times, but if the grade improves, no further improvement exam is allowed, with A being the maximum achievable grade.
For grade improvement exams of up to two courses in the same year, a “Pickup” method is used, meaning the highest grade among multiple attempts is counted in the CGPA.
The new guidelines aim to ensure a transparent, integrated, and fair grading system for National University students.
