The last on-campus reception by Shibir was in 1982. During clashes with other student organizations, four Shibir members were killed. Since then, due to security concerns, Shibir held freshers’ receptions outside the campus.
Mazharul Islam Fahim, a freshman in the Physics Department, said, “We were told Shibir is anti-women and violent, but after interacting with them directly, we learned the truth. We want Shibir to remain active in guiding students’ careers.”
Shibir Rabi campus president and RAKSU VP Mostakur Rahman Zahid said, “On 11 March 1982, four Shibir members were martyred during a freshers’ reception. We commemorate them annually on ‘Martyrs’ Day.’ Today, we successfully held the first on-campus freshers’ reception, which is a great joy for us.”
Rabi University Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Professor Dr. Main Uddin said, “Seat trading has been stopped for previous and current students. We urge new students to stay away from drugs and crime. Freshers’ reception helps students contribute to campus culture.”
Gifts and career guidance were distributed among new students. The event was attended by nearly 3,500 freshers along with deans, hall provosts, Shibir leaders, and special guests including VC (Admin) Dr. Main Uddin, Daksu & Chaksu VPs Sadiq Qayem and Ibrahim Hossain Rony, and Shibir central president Zahidul Islam as the main speaker.
