Left-handed opener Mohammad Naim Sheikh has returned to Bangladesh’s ODI squad after two years. He has been named in the 16-member squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, scheduled to begin next month. Experienced pacer Taskin Ahmed has also made a comeback after recovering from injury.
Chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain announced the squad today at a press conference held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. Mehidy Hasan Miraz will lead the Bangladesh team in this series — his first assignment as ODI captain.
Naim Sheikh replaces Soumya Sarkar, who has been left out due to an unresolved back injury. According to the chief selector, Naim has been in fine form in the recently concluded Dhaka Premier League, where he scored 618 runs in 11 matches, becoming the tournament’s third-highest run-scorer.
The Bangladesh team is currently in Sri Lanka for a Test series. The second Test will begin on June 25 in Colombo, following the conclusion of the first Test in Galle. The ODI series will also begin in Colombo on July 2. The second ODI will be played at the same venue on July 5, while the third and final match will take place in Pallekele on July 8.
