MPO-listed teachers held a black flag march and protest program at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka on Saturday, demanding salary and allowance increases along with two other points in their three-point charter.

The march began around 12:15 PM from Shaheed Minar, proceeded to a gathering at the Kadam Fountain in the National Eidgah area, and later returned to Shaheed Minar.

After the assembly, participating teachers stated that they would continue their ongoing hunger strike at Shaheed Minar. Movement leaders emphasized,“We will continue our struggle until our demands are met.”

The program was announced by Delwar Hossain Azizi, General Secretary of the MPO-Listed Education Nationalization Alliance. He said,“Through the black flag march, we are protesting the state’s neglect of teachers. Everyone is invited to join our movement.”

Teachers were seen at Shaheed Minar from the morning, continuing their hunger strike, with supporters gathering in the surrounding areas. Teachers from various regions joined the protest.

This is part of an ongoing movement that began on October 17, despite rain. The protest originated after the Finance Ministry’s notification on October 5 rejected the decision to raise housing allowance by 500 Taka. The movement escalated when police baton-charged protesters in front of the Press Club on October 13.

On October 15, teachers blocked Shahbagh Mor, and on October 16, they announced the suspension of a march toward the Chief Advisor’s residence and Jamuna area. However, they have indicated that new programs will be announced soon.
