The 2026 World Cup will be held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, prompting questions about Messi’s participation. In an interview with NBC News, Messi said, “Playing in the World Cup is always something special. I want to be there, and if I am, I want to contribute to the team’s success.”
He added, “Once the next season with Inter Miami starts, I will assess my physical condition daily. If I am fit, I definitely want to play. We won the last World Cup, and having the chance to defend that would be truly amazing.”
Messi has previously expressed the same position regarding the 2026 World Cup. Last September, he stated, “When the body doesn’t respond, you can’t enjoy football. I try to be honest with myself. If I feel good, I will play; if not, I won’t.”
Messi’s performance remains exceptional. In the current MLS season, he has scored 29 goals in 28 matches and has won his first Golden Boot. Additionally, he has been named a finalist for the MVP (Most Valuable Player) award. Winning it would mark the first time he has claimed the MVP title in consecutive seasons.
Currently, Messi is focused primarily on club success. Inter Miami is competing in a three-match series against Nashville to secure a place in the MLS Cup semifinals. Miami won the first match 3-1, and if they win the second match on November 2, they will advance to the semifinals.
Messi’s decision to participate in the 2026 World Cup will ultimately depend on his physical condition, leaving fans eagerly anticipating his choice.
