During the meeting, both sides emphasized strengthening bilateral trade and economic cooperation between Bangladesh and Pakistan. They discussed ways to boost existing trade as well as identify new investment opportunities.
Bangladesh’s Trade Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin said, “Bangladesh and Pakistan share long-standing historical and cultural ties, and now it is time to enhance these relations in the economic sector.” He also noted that after 15 years of inactivity, the Bangladesh-Pakistan Joint Economic Commission (JEC) has been revived, which will add a new dimension to trade and investment.
Adviser Sheikh Bashiruddin also highlighted the importance of removing obstacles in trade and investment and increasing trade facilities.
Pakistan’s Minister Ali Pervez Malik stated, “There is enormous potential for trade and investment between Bangladesh and Pakistan. Pakistan is committed to taking bilateral relations to a new height.”
The meeting was attended by Pakistan’s High Commissioner Imran Haider and Bangladesh’s Commerce Secretary Mahbubur Rahman.
