A massive fire broke out at a fabric warehouse of a garment factory in Adamjee Export Processing Zone (EPZ) area of Siddhirganj in Narayanganj. After nearly three hours of continuous efforts, nine units of the Fire Service managed to bring the blaze under control.

A large quantity of fabrics and other raw materials stored inside the warehouse were reportedly destroyed in the fire.

The fire originated at the warehouse of Ananta Apparels Limited at around 4:00 am on Wednesday (July 15). Within a short time, the flames spread rapidly, creating panic throughout the industrial area.

After receiving the information, an Adamjee EPZ Fire Service unit initially reached the spot and started firefighting operations. However, as the intensity of the fire increased, eight more units from four nearby fire stations were brought in to control the situation.

After a long three-hour effort involving nine Fire Service units, the blaze was brought under control at around 7:00 am.

Workers and local residents said that thick smoke was seen coming out of the warehouse early in the morning. Within a short period, the fire became severe as the warehouse contained a large amount of fabric and flammable materials.

The heat and smoke from the fire created panic among workers and nearby factories.

Although the fire has been brought under control, the Fire Service has continued dumping operations to prevent any possibility of the flames reigniting. Rescue workers are carefully checking whether any hidden source of fire or excessive heat remains inside the warehouse.

Senior Station Officer of Adamjee Fire Service and Civil Defence Station Miron Mia said that the fire was brought under control after several hours of effort and that dumping operations were ongoing.

He said the exact cause of the fire and the amount of damage could not be confirmed immediately. Detailed information will be available after the investigation.

He further said that preliminary assessments suggest that a large quantity of fabrics, raw materials, and other goods stored in the warehouse were damaged.

The Fire Service has started an investigation to determine the actual cause of the fire and assess the financial losses. The full picture of the incident will become clear after the investigation report is completed.
