The victim has been identified as Nazim Uddin (13), son of Obaid Ullah from Jahanabad village under Chashirhat Union of Sonaimuri upazila.
According to police sources, about 10–15 days ago, a dispute arose between two students of the madrasa over wearing a cap. Although the teachers initially tried to settle the matter, later one of the students, Abu Sayeed (16)—son of Rustam Ali from Tengapara village in Mymensingh district—became enraged. He bought a sharp knife from Sonaimuri bazar and killed Nazim. Around 2:30 a.m., Sayeed slit Nazim’s throat while he was asleep.
Hearing Nazim’s screams, other students and teachers in the same room woke up and witnessed the horrific scene. Police arrived at the spot shortly afterward, arrested the accused student Abu Sayeed, and recovered the knife used in the murder.
Sonaimuri Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Khorshed Alam said, “Upon receiving the report, police reached the scene at 5 a.m. and began the investigation. The accused student has been taken into custody, and the victim’s body has been sent for autopsy.”
This brutal killing is seen as a shocking outcome of growing tensions and a lack of discipline among students within the madrasa. Police are investigating to uncover the full details behind the incident.
The murder has caused widespread panic and outrage in the area, while the madrasa authorities have assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted.
