The triennial conference of the Kishoreganj District BNP is scheduled to be held today, Saturday (20 September), at the old stadium in the city. After a gap of nine years, the organization of this conference has generated significant enthusiasm among local party leaders and activists.
According to party sources, a total of six candidates are contesting for the posts of President and General Secretary. The district BNP leadership will be elected through direct voting by 2,090 councilors from 13 upazila and 8 municipal committees.
Ahead of the conference, various streets in the city, especially Station Road, have been adorned with banners, festoons, and placards. Over 200 decorative arches have been constructed, and a large stage along with a temporary canopy of approximately 30,000 square feet has been set up in the stadium.
The conference will be inaugurated at 11:00 AM by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. The party’s Acting Chairman, Tarique Rahman, will join virtually as the chief guest, while Adviser to the Chairman, Abdus Salam, will attend as a special guest.
For the President’s post, the current District BNP President Md. Shariful Alam (symbol: Pineapple) and Vice President Ruhul Hossain (symbol: Umbrella) are competing. For the General Secretary position, the contesting candidates include the current secretary Md. Majharul Islam (symbol: Rickshaw), Sadar Upazila President Khaled Saifullah Sohel (symbol: Football), Nikli Upazila’s Shafiqul Alam Rajon (symbol: Fish), and Sajjadul Haque (symbol: Rose).
Party activists say the entire district is witnessing a festive atmosphere ahead of the conference. They also view this direct voting process for leadership selection as a significant example of BNP’s democratic practice.
