Jamaat-e-Islami Amir and opposition leader in parliament Shafiqur Rahman has claimed that the interim government did not consult his party regarding the trade agreement with the United States.
He made this statement while speaking to journalists before attending a civic gathering in Rangpur on Friday afternoon.
Recently, some advisers of the interim government claimed that political parties, including Jamaat, were aware of the trade agreement and did not object. In response, Shafiqur Rahman said no discussion was held with them.
He also alleged that public opinion regarding the referendum was ignored and said the party would continue its movement inside and outside parliament. He added that the issue would never be abandoned.
Referring to reforms in state governance, he said the youth want transformation of the state. However, he alleged that several ordinances issued by the interim government have been cancelled.
He criticized administrative appointments in various districts and expressed dissatisfaction over changes in Bangladesh Bank’s governor.
On northern development, he said if his party comes to power, the northern region will be developed as an agricultural hub. He also welcomed the Padma Barrage project but said it cannot replace fair Teesta water sharing.
Later, he addressed a civic gathering organized by Rangpur city Jamaat at the Shilpakala Academy auditorium as chief guest. The session was chaired by A.T.M. Azam Khan, where Azam Khan was also announced as the party’s mayoral candidate for Rangpur City Corporation.
