Azad said, “We wanted to hold discussions with the BNP Secretary General, but they informed us that they are not interested in talking to us. We are ready to sit for dialogue anytime, and if necessary, we will encourage other political parties to join the discussion.”
He added, “The July Charter has been signed, but the process of its implementation has not yet been determined. When the National Consensus Commission submits recommendations to the government, conflicts arise.”
Emphasizing the importance of democratic participation and public opinion, Azad said, “In democracy, both dialogue and street movements are valid means of expressing opinions. We are not engaging in any violence.”
Regarding objections to holding a referendum alongside the general election, he said, “During national elections, people’s focus remains on parties and candidates. In our country, polling station capture is a common problem. If two votes are held on the same day, it will cause time constraints and reduce voter turnout. Later, people will claim the public did not support the July Charter.”
Azad further stated, “The fascist-era administration still remains. Public trust has not been restored. That’s why a referendum should be held first to rebuild confidence — only then will the national election be more acceptable.”
