Jahangirnagar University student Farhana Wahida Ami killed in tragic road accident in Meherpur

A tragic road accident near Fatepur Bridge in Meherpur Sadar Upazila claimed the life of Farhana Wahida Ami (26), a fourth-year student of the English Department at Jahangirnagar University. The accident occurred around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday (October 15).

Farhana was the daughter of Abdul Wahed Chanchal of Old Post Office Para in Meherpur town and the wife of Raihnul Islam, a mathematics teacher at Kutubpur School and College.

Eyewitness Mehrab Hossain reported that in the morning, Raihnul Islam was taking his wife Farhana on a motorcycle to their home in Ramdaspur, Meherpur Sadar Upazila. When they reached the Fatepur area, their motorcycle came in front of a sand-laden truck. As the truck attempted to overtake another vehicle, the motorcycle hit a pile of bricks on the roadside, lost control, and went under the truck. Farhana Wahida Ami died instantly at the scene.

Sheikh Mezbha Uddin Ahmed, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Meherpur Sadar Police Station, said that police recovered the victim’s body from the spot and sent it to Meherpur General Hospital morgue for autopsy. He also confirmed that a drive is underway to arrest the truck driver and seize the vehicle.
