Jahangirnagar University Renames Four Halls Named After the Sheikh Family

Jahangirnagar University (JU) authorities have finalized the renaming of four halls previously named after the Sheikh family. Acting Registrar A B M Azizur Rahman confirmed the decision on Friday (December 5).

The Syndicate approved the change on Thursday, and the new names are effective immediately:

• Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall → Sher-e-Bangla A.K. Fazlul Huq Hall

• Sheikh Russel Hall (10-story) → Nawab Salimullah Hall

• Sheikh Hasina Hall → July 24 Jagoroni Hall

• Bangamata Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall → Felani Khatun Hall

The administration stated that the renaming honors important figures in the country’s independence and national history. Students and faculty are observing the changes and will conduct hall activities and administration under the new names.
