Despite an active ceasefire, Israeli forces have launched attacks targeting civilians in various areas of the Gaza Strip. Gunfire, drone strikes, and aerial and artillery assaults have injured several Palestinians, including women and children. Local sources report that these attacks have continued almost daily since the ceasefire came into effect in October.

According to the Palestinian news agency WAFA, several civilians were injured in southern Gaza City’s Zeitoun area when Israeli drones fired on them on Sunday. In Al-Mawasi, west of Khan Yunis in southern Gaza, gunfire injured two people, including a teenage girl.

Reports indicate that Israelis also fired on areas they were supposed to have evacuated under the ceasefire. Medical staff at Al-Ahli Arab Hospital in eastern Gaza City reported that three people were injured by gunfire near the Netzarim area. Witnesses confirmed that an Israeli drone targeted a group present in that area.

Furthermore, two more Palestinians were injured in Al-Mawasi due to Israeli attacks, and in Deir al-Balah in central Gaza, a man was shot in the head and is in critical condition, according to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital staff.

Alongside ground attacks, Israeli forces carried out airstrikes on multiple buildings in Rafah, southern Gaza. Artillery fire was also reported in northern Gaza’s Jabalya area and the Tufah neighborhood of Gaza City. Gunfire was reportedly also conducted by helicopters near Bureij refugee camp, and naval artillery targeted areas near Khan Yunis.

In response, Hamas welcomed the proposal to form a fifteen-member technocrat committee to oversee administration under a so-called “Peace Board.” However, questions remain about the committee’s operations, funding, and whether Israeli interference will occur.

Palestinian officials allege that since the ceasefire took effect under U.S. mediation, Israel has killed at least 460 Palestinians and injured over 1,200. Severe restrictions on the entry of food, medical supplies, and shelter materials remain in effect.

Currently, around 2.2 million people face acute humanitarian crises, living in temporary shelters during winter. According to the United Nations, nearly 90 percent of civilian infrastructure in Gaza has been destroyed, requiring at least fifty billion dollars for reconstruction.

Since the start of the conflict on 7 October 2023, over 71,000 Palestinians have been killed, and more than 171,000 injured, the majority being women and children. Despite the ceasefire, ongoing violence has deepened insecurity and uncertainty among Gaza residents.
