India-Bangladesh Diplomatic Tensions Affecting Cricket Sponsorships

Ongoing political tensions between India and Bangladesh are beginning to affect cricket sponsorships. Contracts with India’s leading cricket equipment manufacturer SG for several top Bangladeshi players, including captain Liton Das and former Test captain Mominul Haque, are in uncertainty as their contracts near expiry.

Previously, another Indian sports manufacturer, Sarin Sports Industries, had canceled contracts citing political instability. Supply of cricket equipment in Bangladesh has almost halted in the last year. The IPL-2026 auction controversy involving Mustafizur Rahman has intensified concerns, prompting the BCB to request relocating Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup matches in India to Sri Lanka.

Experts warn prolonged political tensions could have a deeper financial impact on Bangladesh cricket.
