Independent candidate Syed A K Ekramuzzaman has decided to withdraw from the upcoming national parliamentary election in Brahmanbaria-1 (Nasirnagar) constituency. He announced the decision in a video message on Thursday.

Ekramuzzaman, once an advisor to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, was expelled from BNP for contesting the election independently. He is known as Managing Director of R K Ceramics and has previously contested multiple elections in Brahmanbaria-1. He ran as a BNP candidate in the 9th and 11th national elections but was unsuccessful. In the 12th national election, he won as an independent candidate under the ‘Kalar Chhori’ symbol, receiving nearly 89,000 votes.

His personal assistant, Enamul Huda (Sumon), stated that Ekramuzzaman met with BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman in Dhaka on Thursday and, following party interests and respect for the late Khaleda Zia, decided to withdraw. Ekramuzzaman said in the video that he has been involved in BNP politics for over two decades and will continue to work for the people.
