The ‘July March to Build the Nation’ organized by the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) is set to begin in Khagrachhari, in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. On Monday (July 21) at 11 a.m., the march will start from the city’s Chengi Square, proceed through various important areas, and conclude at Shapla Chattar. Following the march, a public rally will be held at the open stage.
Security measures have been tightened throughout Khagrachhari in preparation for the event. Large numbers of police personnel have been deployed at various key points across the city. Alongside 620 police officers, senior officials including Additional Police Superintendents, Assistant Police Superintendents, Officers-in-Charge, and Sub-Inspectors are overseeing the security arrangements.
Police Superintendent Md. Arefin Juel stated, “After the unwanted incidents in Cox’s Bazar, we have made preparations early in Khagrachhari. For maintaining law and order, discussions were held with local BNP leaders, who have assured us that no conflicts will arise.”
Farmer League Program Scheduled on the Same Day
On the same day at 5 p.m., the BNP-affiliated farmer league is scheduled to hold a program in the Kolabagan area of Khagrachhari. The distance between NCP’s event venue at Chengi Square and Kolabagan is about two kilometers. This has created a tense atmosphere throughout the city, although the situation remains calm so far.
Expectation of a Peaceful Program
A BNP leader, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, “We welcome peaceful political activities. We have requested NCP leaders to avoid provocative statements. Our workers have also been instructed not to cause any obstruction on the roads.”
Top NCP Leaders to Participate
NCP convener Nahid Islam, southern chief organizer Hasnat Abdullah, northern chief organizer Sarjis Alam, joint secretary Tasnim Zara, and Khagrachhari district council member Manjila Akter Jhuma will participate in the march and rally.
Jhuma said, “People from nine upazilas of the district are joining our program. We will conduct the activities peacefully and hope all political parties will cooperate.”
Torans (decorative arches), banners, and festoons have been installed at various places in the city. The march route will pass through Mahajanpara, Narkel Bagan Bazaar, and Adalat Road, ending at Shapla Chattar, followed by the central public rally at the open stage.
