The seventh general meeting of the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) turned tense again over the issue of a recent Cox’s Bazar visit. At the meeting held on Wednesday at the party’s central office, central leaders raised questions regarding the visit of five leaders to Cox’s Bazar and posts shared on social media following show-cause notices. The online publication of personal show-cause letters was also criticized during the discussion.
The Cox’s Bazar visit was debated for nearly two hours. Several central committee members particularly criticized the top-level leaders for making the visit on the first anniversary of the “July People’s Uprising.” They also condemned the practice of responding to show-cause notices via Facebook and questioning the party, its convener, and general secretary. Many commented that taking personal trips at such times was not a wise decision.
The meeting, which started at 5:00 PM, continued until 3:00 AM before being adjourned. It resumed the next day at 6:00 PM, covering topics including plans for new arrangements, dissatisfaction with the government’s July declaration, opinions on the July charter, the upcoming 13th parliamentary election, and the month-long “July March to Build the Nation.”
Other discussions included swift decisions regarding allegations of moral misconduct by Sarwar Tushar, and interference in district administration appointments and commission trading accusations involving Gazi Salauddin Tanvir. Abdullah Al-Amin, head of the disciplinary committee, stated that detailed discussions on disciplinary issues took place and decisions would be made promptly.
Present at the meeting were party convener Md. Nahid Islam, general secretary Akhtar Hossain, senior joint convener Samanta Sharmin, northern chief organizer Sarjis Alam, southern chief organizer Hasnat Abdullah, chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari, senior joint general secretary Tasnim Zara, and other members of the convener committee.
