PNN News Desk | Dhaka:
The government has initiated a large-scale project to provide permanent housing for 1,560 people who were seriously injured or lost their ability to work during the July movement, in Mirpur Section 9. The Ministry of Housing and Public Works has estimated the project cost at BDT 13.44 billion. Upon final approval by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) following the Planning Commission’s proposed process, the project aims to construct 15 buildings by June 2029.

Each flat in the project will have an area of 1,320 square feet and will include basement parking, lifts, substations, generators, solar power systems, and fire hydrants. Community facilities will also be provided, including educational institutions, a mosque, playgrounds, and green spaces.

Nazmul Alam, an official of Planning Division-2 of the Ministry of Housing, stated that the selection of beneficiaries follows the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs’ Category-A and Category-B lists. This will ensure that seriously injured and disabled July movement participants receive permanent housing through the flats.

Due to the excellent infrastructure and connectivity of the chosen area, the ministry believes the project is well-suited for implementation in this important urban location.
