AB Party Chairman Mujibur Rahman Manju has alleged that the ruling BNP government has failed to implement its promised reforms in key sectors.

He made the remarks on Tuesday (April 14) while speaking as chief guest at a discussion meeting held at the party’s central office in Bijoynagar, Dhaka, marking the Bengali New Year.

Manju said that promises made before the election are no longer being fulfilled. He accused the government of betraying public expectations after coming to power.

He added that the ruling group seems to have forgotten past experiences of repression soon after assuming office.

Referring to history, he said that when public patience runs out, mass movements emerge, citing examples such as the Language Movement, the Liberation War, and the 1990 uprising.

He also raised concerns about the electoral system, stating that public opinion is being ignored in the name of democracy.

Mentioning the economic situation, he said that ordinary people are under multiple pressures and the hopes created by recent political changes have not been fulfilled.

Other party leaders at the meeting also pledged to work toward restoring democracy and securing people’s rights in the new year.

The event was conducted by AB Volunteer Party convener Kefaet Hossain Tanvir, with a welcome speech by Joint General Secretary Shahadatullah Tutul. Leaders and activists from various levels were also present.
