Government Declares August 8 as New Bangladesh Day and July 16 as Martyr Abu Saeed Day

The government has announced August 8 as "New Bangladesh Day" and July 16 as "Martyr Abu Saeed Day," commemorating the day student Abu Saeed was killed by police gunfire during mass protests in Rangpur.

On Wednesday, the Cabinet Division issued separate circulars regarding these designations.

The circular states that August 8 will be officially observed every year as a ‘Class B’ national and international day under the category of "New Bangladesh Day."

Similarly, July 16 will be observed annually as a ‘Class B’ day designated as "Martyr Abu Saeed Day."

Additionally, August 5 will be commemorated as "July Mass Uprising Day."
